Garissa Police Arrest 70 in a Swoop on Chang'aa Den Kambi Moto

Another indication of the total inefficacy of Garissa's Ulamaa and the erosion of the city's Islamic identity comes to us via this report filed by Stephen Astariko.

Administration police officers yesterday raided chang'aa dens in Garissa town and its surroundings and arrested 70 people and seized 1,000 litres of chang'aa. Police officers were ordered to conduct the raids after receiving information from wananchi that criminals believed to be al Shabaab sympathisers were hiding in the dens.

Speaking after arresting the suspects and impounding more than 1,000 litres of chang'aa, Garissa acting DC Ambroce Lochokwe said that the raids are meant to flush out gangsters hiding in the dens. One youth who narrowly escaped the police dragnet said he had started seeing strange faces at the place that he frequented.

"One heavily built youthful looking man came here (kambi ya moto) two days ago and found me enjoying a glass of chang'aa and started asking me questions about this town. I then become suspicious about him, he disappeared before I raised the alarm," said the man who identified himself only as Musyoka. Lochokwe while briefing the media said the crackdown will continue until all the dens that harbour criminals are 'completely done away with.

Now I'm not against people who don't share my beliefs and values enjoying their evening pint so long as they are doing so legally and are not a threat to the public. But this popping up of dens where dangerous liquor is manufactured and sold is a threat to public health and safety.

Bismillahi Gargar to Perform in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Bismillahi Gargar, an all-female music group of Somali origin based in Kenya, is set to perform in Bulawayo during the annual Intwasa Arts Festival.
The show is a collaboration between Intwasa Arts Festival and the Alliance Française de Bulawayo.
“The women will perform at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel on the opening night of September 19,” said Gilmore Moyo, cultural coordinator with Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo.
“Their performance in Bulawayo is part of our cultural and arts exchange programmes that we hold on a regular basis throughout the year as an association in conjunction with the Embassy of France in Zimbabwe.”
Their music is a fusion of pop and traditional beats in keeping with Somali language and style arranged and recorded with modern instrumentation.
The group’s name is derived from the Somali word bismillahi which means- “in the name of Allah (God)” and gargar meaning -“joining or bringing together”.
Formed in 2003 with the purpose of reminding people of their traditional culture, Bismillahi Gargar focuses on their own empowerment in an area where cultural practices sometimes marginalise women.
“Music is just one of the activities they engage in.
Besides performing on national holidays, at weddings, harvests and other festivities, the women also run a self-help group weaving mats and ropes,” said Moyo.
Their debut album titled Garissa Express was recorded over a period of two years at Nairobi’s Ketebul Studios.
“This project involved the four founding members namely, Lulu Bashir Muge, Anab Gure Ibtahi, Amina Basher Elmoge and Asha Ibrahim Yussuf. The album’s release in Nairobi was a huge success,” he said.

KTN Insults Somali Culture, Again!

 It's a long, winding road from the crucible of some third rate college to a media house. But Saida Swaleh seems to have made the leap before she learnt anything. In some horseshit clip purporting to be a study of Somali culture, this brain-addled bimbo serves up  the usual racism that has become the trademark of KTN and The Standard Media Group in general. She dabbles in propagating stereotypes, spreading unfounded lies, insulting Islam and belittling Somali culture. For someone who claims to be a Muslim, this scumbag of a reporter is as Bipolar { the ending was somewhat conciliatory}as they come.

What I like the most about the video is the Gentleman in the Raila-esque cap who said:
